Freedom University Condemns Supreme Court’s Decision on Affirmative Action

Affirmative Action Benefits All of Us!

Freedom University condemns the Supreme Court decision ending affirmative action.

Affirmative action seeks to remedy past historical exclusion and generations of pervasive racial discrimination. It also sets the framework to prevent future discrimination.

Affirmative action is needed in a country built on the genocide of Indigenous peoples.

Affirmative action is needed in a country built on 246 years of slavery, 90 years of Jim Crow, and 60 years of mass incarceration targeting Black people.

Affirmative action is needed in a country that banned Chinese immigrants in 1882 and all Asians as racially ineligible for citizenship until 1952.

Affirmative action is needed in a country where 99% of the nearly 11 million undocumented people are people of color.

Affirmative action is needed in a country where white people own more than 98% of U.S. land.

Affirmative action is needed to prepare young people of all races with the knowledge and skills they need to collaborate in a multiracial, global society.

Affirmative action is needed because, as Justice Thurgood Marshall once said, “Unless our children begin to learn together, there is little hope that our people will ever begin to live together.”
