An Inspiring Visit at Agnes Scott College

Today was the first day of our Atlanta College Tour! This morning, three aspiring undocumented students and two of our staff members visited Agnes Scott College, a private liberal arts women’s college.

We were welcomed by warm and knowledgeable admissions staff, and were thrilled to finally meet in person several staff members from the Center for Writing and Speaking who serve as tutors in Freedom University’s Writing Tutoring online class!

But perhaps what was most inspiring about the tour - beyond finding a beautiful ofrenda and walking through expansive, light-filled libraries - was visiting with a Freedom University alumna who received a full merit scholarship and is now a thriving freshman at Agnes Scott College, and seeing art and murals around campus painted by former Freedom University art professors and Agnes Scott alumnae, Yehimi Cambrón and Charmaine Minniefield.

Setting foot on the campuses of welcoming colleges such as Agnes Scott provides a powerful affirmation to our students: that regardless of the Georgia Board of Regents’ exclusionary policies, there are people in Georgia and across the country who recognize our students’ humanity, who believe in their dreams of higher education, and who are ready to welcome them with open arms.

A special thank you to the Agnes Scott community for such a joyful and beautiful autumn day!
